Wildlife pastel art banner of animal art

Award-winning animal artist Georgina Gibbons shone an all too brief light on the beauty of animals through her work.

Georgina took a degree in art at the Central School of Art and Design in London (now Central St. Martin’s) and spent many years working in graphic design and marketing.

In 2010 she became a full-time animal artist, specialising in wildlife art, and was quick to receive national recognition. In that very short period of becoming a professional artist her talent achieved success.

Georgina loved to do wildlife art, including birds and marine life, and was thrilled to win the title of BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year 2013, after winning through to the finals in 2011 and 2012. She also got two pieces through to the finals of the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year 2014 competition.

She worked exclusively in high quality pastels because she loved both a softness and an intensity of colour, she was able to achieve and used archival quality materials.

Georgina

She had a deep love of animals, having grown up with animals around her, and felt a strong empathy with them.

She was just getting into her stride as an animal artist when she was hit with the diagnosis of incurable secondary breast cancer in the bones.

Georgina lost her battle against cancer in 2015 but her spirit remains through the original prints and paintings that remain.

Very best wishes

Geoffrey Gibbons
